Welcoming Alex Maizlish to the Seaforth Team as Geomatics Specialist

At Seaforth, we continue to invest in the people and capabilities that enable us to deliver high-quality survey solutions for clients worldwide. We are pleased to welcome Alex Maizlish to the team as Geomatics Specialist, further strengthening our technical expertise as we support projects across a wide range of marine environments.

Alex brings a strong technical foundation, a global perspective and a clear enthusiasm for the work we do. As we continue to support clients in increasingly complex environments, his skills will play an important role in enhancing our geomatics capability and delivering the reliable data our clients depend on.

We asked Alex a few questions to learn more about his background and what he’s looking forward to in his new role.

What led you to a career in hydrography at Seaforth?

My journey began in land surveying and topography, working on diverse projects ranging from railroad construction in the Russian Arctic to large-scale infrastructure in Israel. It was during my time surveying at oil refineries and ports in Israel that I first worked near the sea and felt a strong pull toward the marine environment.

When I moved to Canada, I decided to take a leap of faith. After years on land, I chose the Marine Geomatics program at COGS over traditional land surveying. I figured we only live once, and I wanted to trade the dusty construction sites for the open water—even though my only previous “sea experience” was a 10-day sailing trip in Greece! After gaining experience in geophysical and marine surveying post-graduation, joining Seaforth felt like the perfect fit. It offers that ideal balance of a local company culture with the opportunity to work on international projects using a full suite of advanced marine and land surveying technology.

What do you look forward to doing at Seaforth or what has been a career highlight for you?

I am most excited about mastering the technical complexities of our field. My goal is to become an expert in the full lifecycle of a survey, I’m particularly interested in the “all-encompassing” projects where I can merge marine data with drone photogrammetry to provide a seamless picture of both the seafloor and the shore environment.

What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of work?

Outside of work, music is my main passion. I play guitar in a jazz trio alongside a cellist and bassist. We perform a mix of Bossa Nova and Samba styles; it’s a wonderful creative outlet that complements the more analytical side of my career in geomatics.

Please join us in welcoming Alex to the Seaforth team.
