Seaforth was subcontracted by RS Marine / Real-Time Ocean Data Services to provide ghost gear survey services to the Tomgat Secretariat. The secretariat identified survey areas offshore of Labrador, NL using information gathered from local fisherman in areas of known abandoned fishing gear.
The primary focus for survey operations was to demonstrate the suitability of different technologies such as Sidescan Sonar and an Ultra-Short Baseline positioning system. Two instances of suspected ghost gear were identified during the survey.
