New Multibeam Echosounders installed on the Coriolis II
March / April 2012
New multibeam echosounders have been installed on Seaforth’s dedicated survey vessel, the R/V Coriolis II. The Kongsberg EM302 and the EM 2040 echosounders were mounted in a gondola, attached to the hull while the vessel was in drydock. The combination of echosounders will allow the Coriolis to collect multibeam data in water depths ranging from 20m to 8000m – a range between the length of two tennis courts and the height of some of the tallest mountains on earth. These systems have been successfully used in a multibeam survey of the Laurentian Channel.
